I installed your WPComic theme into my newly installed blog on my own
hosted website and I have a few questions.
1) I want to use the Recent News widget on the right bar, but I want
to reword the title for it. What file is that widget so I can go in
and alter the title?
2) Do you know of any templates people have made with your theme that
are downloadable?
3) I also want to add a non-tiled background image under the right
sidebar, is that possible? If so, where do I go to add it?
1)If you wish to modify the titles inside the widget, you can look inside sidebar.php.
2)So Far, i don’t know of any FREE templates of WPComic out there, but there are a lot of people who have customized WPComic for their needs
3)Adding anything iside the sidebar involves modifying sidebar.php
I want to replace the <<FIRST LAST>> text with buttons. it’s simply not allowing any graphics at all and makes the links unclickable if I do insert an IMG tag
Download the latest version of WPComic. There is now an option that allows you to chose either the standard comic navigation text or to use images for your comic navigation.
I’ve got a couple of questions, if that’s ok.
1. In which part of the code can you change the background colour – at
the moment I’ve had to leave it white.
2. On some browsers (Chrome, Safari and at least some versions of IE) the
footer appears in the middle of the page right over my posts. How can I
avoid this?
Many thanks for your help!
Cheers,
Richy
1. You don’t have to modify anything in the code to change the background color. Just use the admin page of WPComic. There is a setting for background color
2. Sorry Richy, I can’t really help you have changed the html code yourself. The original footer of WPComic should work just fine on all browsers.
I’m confused on changing my banner image. I’ve created a new 1000 x 100px jpg and named it logo.jpg. I’ve placed it inside the WPComic/images folder, and gotten rid of the original image. I’ve FTP’d the new image as an over ride to the old image, and made sure I selected “use image header stored at “images/logo.jpg” in the WPComic Configuration page. But despite this, my new banner won’t display. All I see is the original. What am I doing wrong?
You need to do a “forced” refresh to see your update. All browsers keep images in their cache. So you need to force a cache update by forcing a full refresh. To so press CTL+F5 or SHIFT+F5. At that point, you will see your updated image.
I’m having problems getting our banner logo on my site (http://www.aminal-farm.com). I’ve uploaded a logo file, 1000×100 to our Media image library, it’s named logo and is a jpg file, but when I try to turn on the banner, I get the default banner instead of the one I want.
Could it be that I need to update WordPress (currently using 2.8.6 instead of 2.9.1) so the media galleries aren’t set up right?
Hi Chad,\WPComic\images\logo.jpg.
The banner logo should work on any version of Wordpress. You do not have to upgrade to 2.9.1 to get it working. Instead, you need to place your logo in the proper folder. The logo file must be placed inside the images folder of the WPComic theme. If you place it anywhere else, it will not work. You must place the logo.jpg file in
Once you do this, your logo.jpg will overwrite the default logo.jpg file and you will see your logo.
Also note that firefox and internet explorere keep caches. So make sure to force a full refresh by holding the CRTL key when you refresh.
I’m trying to change the banner at the top of the screen. The FAQ say to “simply drop the image in the wpcomic/images folder,” but WHERE exactly is this folder??? I can’t find it anywhere!!
Hi Jared,
Sorry for taking so long to respond. The images folder is actually located inside your wpcomic folder. So, when you unzip the wpcomic.zip file, you will have a folder called wpcomic. If you open the wpcomic folder that you unzipped, you will find a folder in there called images. Your banner image is located inside this images folder.
Hope this helps…
Does wpcomic support batch uploads of comic images that can be automatically displayed by the software for future updates? Or do I have to manually upload every single comic, every day when I want to update?
Hi,
Although there is no mechanism to batch upload the webcomics in WPComic, you can use WordPress’s date feature to determine when the webcomic will be published.
Hello,
I am using WP Comic and I would like to change the fonts that are used for the blog postings. Can I do this? I tried replacing the serif fonts in the CSS with sans-serif, but that didn’t seem to work.
Thank you.
Hi Doubting Timmy,
Sorry for the late response. I was on vacation… If you want to change the font for your blog postings, you can simply modify the style.css file. You can simply add the following line:
#article_text { font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; }
inside your style.css file and it should do it…
Note that you should change the font value to whatever font you want. You can also add aditional stuff such as font size and color…
Hi Gorilla Ninja,
I’ve been messing around with WPComic for a little while and for the most part it seems straightforward. However, I do have one significant issue – I have my site set up so that the landing page shows the most recent comic, and as a result the “post a comment” form only appears on older entries. Effectively this means you can’t get commentary from readers on current content. I’ll see if I can find a straightforward way of enabling this myself in the code, but it’s something you may want to consider fixing in a future release.
Thanks,
Kyle
